BOOK NEWS

I hope you are having a healthy and safe start to 2022! I thought I’d share something bright and joyful this cold winter morning. I adore these gorgeous spreads from my soon-to-be-published picture book ONE SUN AND COUNTLESS STARS: A MUSLIM BOOK OF NUMBERS, featuring the incredible art of Mehrdokht Amini.

This is the third book in our Muslim concept series, and I’m thrilled that it will be available in time for Ramadan this spring! Please pre-order your copies now, for a March 1 delivery!

People often ask me for lists of books and recommendations, and I’m always glad to refer them to I’m Your Neighbor Books. In case you haven’t heard of this wonderful organization, they support and welcome immigrant communities by curating, loaning, and gifting diverse children’s books. I’ve been honored to partner with them in the past and enjoyed speaking to founder Kirsten Cappy and Louise El Yaafouri of Diversifi-ED about AMINA’S SONG and Muslim literature in the classroom. You can watch our conversation here, and I hope you’ll check out the good work they are doing, including their Welcoming Library, and join the effort!

WHAT I’M READING

I recently finished Veera Hiranandani’s newest middle grade novel, HOW TO FIND WHAT YOU’RE NOT LOOKING FOR, and was once again blown away by her beautiful use of language and gifted storytelling. The story, a historical fiction set in the 1960s, manages to be timely and relevant, as protagonist Ariel Goldberg tries to make sense of the changing world in an accessible and heartwarming way. I highly recommend it for your next read!
